Illustrations within the product aim to add extra visual impact and meaning to states that the user will face. They give a friendlier, personal feel to the overall experience and act as an extension of the brand.

They will typically be used as a supporting element to the text on the page, so they should be meaningful and tie in with the message that is being conveyed through the text. They should be informative, supportive and in the case of empty states where data will appear later, suggestive of what will go there.
